Highlights in May

Francesca Sophie Archbishop celli Celli group Choir Don & CelliHighlights in May at Assisi Centre were plentiful, beginning with ‘Solo Sam’, back by popular demand, to entertain the residents as part of the Mother’s Day celebrations.

It is heart-warming to see them embracing these events, which the Lifestyle staff superbly orchestrates.

The celebration included handmade gifts for all the mums and raffle draws of 5 prizes.

Most of the prizes were generously donated by family members and local businesses.

Assisi Centre would like to acknowledge the generosity of:

  • Chiera Pharmacy
  • Elisa Santilli
  • Ireland’s Florist- Heidelberg
  • Lucy Romanin
  • Nuccia Bascetta
  • Rossi Family

The residents at the Assisi Centre Aged Care were honoured by a special visit from His Excellency Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli who celebrated Holy Mass on Friday, 8th May, in the auditorium.

Archbishop Celli graciously gave of his time to mingle and share a drink after mass was finished.

On the 13th May, during National Volunteers week, the enormous contribution of volunteers was recognised by the Assisi Centre with each volunteer presented with a certificate of appreciation followed by afternoon tea.

The speeches by the Assisi Centre President, Don Smarrelli & CEO, Martin Sammut were excellent in expressing the gratitude for the service volunteers provide, as well as gaining the perspective of the volunteers themselves.

We were fortunate to have 2 volunteers share their experiences on the day: Rosetta Arzanello, a seasoned volunteer of many years, expressed what volunteering means to her.

Sophie Kahl, one of our newest volunteers, gave a young person’s perspective and her presentation was especially enlightening as she expressed beautifully what volunteering means to her and the path which led her to Assisi.

The busy month was topped off with a resident favourite: a shopping trip to the Preston market..

….and now, for June!
